We know the basics of Agatha All Along, the Disney+ show that centers on Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), the villain of the Marvel Cinematic Universe series WandaVision.

One thing we know is the main cast—in addition to Hahn it stars Aubrey Plaza, Heartstopper’s Joe Locke, and Emma Caulfield Ford, who reprises her WandaVision role of Dottie. Other than that, we don’t know much, including the plot. In an interview with Empire, however, showrunner Jac Schaeffer (who also oversaw WandaVision) shared some details about what’s in store for Agatha.

Schaeffer told Empire that Agatha, who at the end of WandaVision had no memory of her witchy past, remembers all but remains powerless. “Then, this mysterious goth teen [played by Locke] shows up in her life,” Schaeffer said. “It’s his idea to travel the Witches’ Road to get her power back. But in order to go on the Road, you’ve got to get a coven together. So how does a witch that no one’s going to trust get a band of sisters together?”

Locke’s character is only called “Teen” in the scripts, so odds are good that he has some secret backstory that will be revealed in the series. “He’s a familiar; he’s like the assistant to the coven,” Locke teased to Empire. “Teen is a big fan of witchcraft and witches, so for him to be taken under Agatha Harkness’ wing and form a coven and go down the Witches’ Road is his dream. He’s fanboy-esque, and in his element. Which is very fun—because I was [too]!”

Locke also said that when Schaeffer sent images of the set to Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, he replied, “Oh my God, we’re making The Goonies.”

The Goonies, Agatha-style? It’s an intriguing premise. Hahn also shared that we’ll learn more about what makes her character tick in the upcoming episodes. “We’ve seen her with all her bravado and crazy confidence,” she said. “So much of Agatha is performance. It was exciting to get to the kernel under the sass and sarcasm and taking pleasure in other people’s pain. There’s something broken under that, big-time.”

The first two episodes of Agatha All Along premieres on Disney+ on September 18, 2024. The remaining seven episodes will drop weekly until November 6, 2024. icon-paragraph-end
